Pressure relief valves are fitted to all compressed air systems normally on the receiver and other pressure vessels. The purpose of the pressure relief valve is to release air from the system if the pressure within the system increases above safe working pressure. It helps prevents dangerous pressure build up in systems by releasing excess pressure in a controlled and safe way. Selecting the correct pressure relief valve is critical to ensure the safety of your system. If you are in any way unsure speak to us for assistance. Note: The pressure relief valve is an item that is ALWAYS checked during an insurance inspection of WSE (Written Scheme of Examination) check. It will be check by an qualified engineer to be sure it is operating correctly and is correctly sized for the air system.
To select the correct pressure relief valve you need to make sure you select the correct the thread size and correct pressure setting. Never choose a smaller thread size than you currently have and make sure you know the compressor and system working pressure when you select the set pressure.
You also need to check the pressure relief valve outlet size and direction. Most manufacturers no longer offer pressure relief valves with a test function since this is no longer regarded as best practice.
